Napier Enhanced Option School continues to expand and strengthen a strong home-school-community partnership that ensures a safe, child-oriented learning environment. Through this partnership, children will grow and achieve to their highest potential. To achieve these goals, the Napier Enhanced Option School staff will do the following:
- Allow parents and community stakeholders to “hook-up and plug in” at the beginning of the year. Seek trained volunteers to help tutor students and assist the teachers. Encourage parents to volunteer, observe, serve on committees and participate in their child’s class and during school-wide activities. Help with class projects, fieldtrips and PTO activities.
- Provide parents copies of the parent involvement policy, school-parent-student compact, mission and vision statements, MNPS Code of Conduct, MNPS District Policy and the Napier Student Handbook. These will be discussed at grade level parent meetings and at the annual fall PTO Open House. Parents will have the opportunity to make modifications and revision in the spring of each year.
- Provide parents a description and explanation of Napier’s TN state standards-based curriculum. Describe what mastery looks like at each grade level. Demonstrate the carious assessments used throughout the year. Inform parents of the progress children are making toward the given benchmarks.
- Provide report cards and mid-nine week progress reports. Use several methods of communication that include but are not limited to: home visits, telephone logs, daily behavior folders and/or agendas, informal and formal parent-teacher conferences and frequent newsletters.
- Provide strategies for parents that will assist them while supporting educational experiences at home. Parents will be included in various professional development opportunities that are made available at Napier for parents, staff and community stakeholders.
- Encourage parents to work effectively with their children at home. Stress the importance of proper rest, proper study time and daily on time attendance.
- Involve parents in an annual evaluation at PTO meetings and send district as well as Napier surveys home to determine the effectiveness of the program.
- Address topics such as parenting, homework, behavior management, early childhood development, TCAP, state performance standards, family literacy, conflict management, alternative teaching strategies, discipline and other appropriate subjects at meetings.
- Encourage parents to decide how to effectively use the MNPS funds and Title I funds reserved for parent involvement.
- Above all, stress the importance of team work with all staff, community stakeholders and parents; allow for the best possible learning environment so children can acquire the skills to become life long accountable learners.
