1.  What are the school hours for Napier?

    School hours are 8:00-3:45 each day.  Half day dismissals are at 11:30. PreK students are dismissed each day at 2:00.

2.  What time do the students have breakfast?

    The school opens at 7:30 each morning for students to have a healthy breakfast. Students who want to eat need to be in the cafeteria before 7:55.  PreK students eat with their classes each morning at 8:00.

3.  Does the school have a nurse present each day?

     Napier currently shares a nurse with several other schools in the area.  We do not have a full time nurse each day.  However, several individuals are trained in first aid and can help children when the nurse is not present.

4.  What do I do if I need to talk with my child's teacher?

    Teachers are more than willing to discuss any concerns or problems that you may have. All teachers have a common planning time during which you can schedule a conference. Please call the teacher and set a time before you come to see them.  Upon arriving at the school, please sign in with the office and receive a visitor's pass.  The secretary will call the teacher and let them know that you are present.

5.   Where is your school located?

      Our school is located at 60 Fairfield Avenue.   We are right off of Lafayette Street and very close to downtown Nashville.  Directions to Napier School. 

6.  How is your school different from other Metro Schools?

    Our school is very special, filled with unique and curious learners.  Our motto is "Student Achievment Comes First" and our Napier Family will do everything possible to make sure  that the students meet with success.  Our educational program is filled with challenges that offer students the opportunity to problem-solve, think critically, and  grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Students are able to participate in the Hesperia Model for reading and instruction is continually targeted to meet the needs of the individual child.

7.  What does Enhanced Option School mean?

     Napier offers a 15:1 student-teacher ratio in grades K-3 and a 20:1 ratio in grade 4.  Our program includes 3 regular  Pre-Kindergarten classes,  social services,  and afterschool care through Club MCM.

8.  How do I sign up for Napier EOS?

     Applications are available at the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) Office at 2601 Bransford Avenue or the internet at www.mnps.org To be eligible for the lottery, all applications must be submitted to the Magnet Office by the application deadline date. If the application is submitted after the lottery, the student’s name will go on a waiting list. Any additional information needed, please contact the Magnet Office at 259-8676.

9.  How many days is my child allowed to miss?

     Students are allowed to miss 5 excused/unexcused absences. After 5 absences each child will be reported to the Attendance worker to follow-up. If your child is going to be absent from school, please send an excuse note upon their return to school.  If a child continually misses school, a doctor's note may be required in order for the absence to be excused.

10. Do buses pick up & drop off. If so, What time?

      Napier is a neighborhood school.  The only students who are eligible to ride the bus are those students who are in special programs. If you need additional information, please call Transportation at 282-3870.

11. Do we have Pre-Kindergarten and if so, what ages?

     Our Pre-Kindergarten classes serve children the age of 4 only. Each child must reach their 4th birthday by September 30th. Parents must provide transportation to and from school each day. Pre-Kindergarten hours are 7:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Children may be dismissed from the program if they are not picked up from school on time.

12. Does your school have before and after care?

      Our school does not offer before care to students.  There are several daycares that do offer drop-off and pick-up services to our school.  Students in second, third, and fourth grade may sign up to participate in Club MCM.  This program offers homework assistance, tutoring, as well as enrichment.  The program runs from late September through early May.
